In a night that will be etched into British boxing folklore, Daniel Dubois turned the heavyweight division on its head with a sensational fifth-round knockout of Anthony Joshua in front of 96,000 stunned fans at Wembley Stadium.

Dubois, defending his IBF crown, showed no fear as he tore into the two-time world champion from the first bell. While many doubted the 26-year-old’s ability to rise to the moment, it was Joshua who appeared frozen, unable to match the young champion’s energy or fire.

The fight started with an early shock as Dubois, known for his thunderous jab and power shots, floored Joshua with a crushing right hand in the opening round. The former Olympic gold medallist never fully recovered. A steady stream of stiff jabs and punishing hooks from Dubois kept Joshua off balance and on the defensive, preventing the Watford warrior from finding any rhythm.

By the third round, Joshua was once again down on the canvas, as a sharp left from Dubois crumpled him to the ropes. Though the crowd roared in an effort to lift their man, the chants of “AJ” began to fade under the relentless assault.

The fourth saw Joshua attempt to claw his way back, landing a few shots of his own, but it was too little, too late. Dubois, sensing the end was near, kept his composure and waited for the perfect moment to strike.

That moment arrived early in the fifth. After forcing Joshua onto the back foot with pinpoint pressure, Dubois unleashed a devastating counter right hand that detonated on Joshua’s chin. The ex-champion collapsed to the canvas and, despite his best efforts to rise, was counted out by the referee. The knockout won the coveted Ring Magazine Knockout of the Year.

With the win, Dubois not only retained his IBF world title but announced himself as a major force in the heavyweight scene. Ringside observers, including current titleholders Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury, watched closely — and perhaps with new caution — as “Dynamite” Dubois celebrated the most important victory of his career.

As talk turns to rematch clauses and future title unifications, one thing is certain: Daniel Dubois has arrived as a true wrecking ball in boxing’s most glamorous division.

In a night that will be etched into boxing history, Leigh Wood retained his WBA ‘Regular’ featherweight crown in breath-taking fashion, stopping Michael Conlan with a dramatic 12th-round knockout in front of a roaring Nottingham crowd on March 12, 2022.

This was no ordinary title defence—it was a high-stakes battle that swung like a pendulum and delivered one of the most jaw-dropping finishes in recent memory.

From the opening bell, Wood found himself in deep waters. Conlan, unbeaten and brimming with confidence, announced himself with a thunderous left in the dying seconds of the first round, sending the defending champion crashing to the canvas. The Belfast southpaw seized control from there, outworking and outsmarting Wood in the early and middle rounds with sharp combinations and slick movement.

As the rounds ticked by, it looked like Conlan was cruising toward his first world title. A cut opened above Wood’s eye in the fourth, further compounding the challenge. But the Nottingham native dug deep. Slowly but surely, he clawed his way back into the contest, investing in punishing body shots and pushing the pace. By the 11th, he scored a controversial knockdown that Conlan’s corner insisted was a slip—but the referee ruled otherwise.

Heading into the 12th, Conlan was ahead on all three scorecards. Wood needed a knockout, and he delivered one that shocked the arena into silence. With just over a minute gone, Wood uncorked a right hand that sent Conlan tumbling backward and out through the ropes in a chilling scene. Medical staff rushed in immediately, and the boxing world held its breath.

Thankfully, Conlan later confirmed from the hospital that he was “all good” and his scans were clear—a massive relief for all.

Wood’s comeback, written in blood, sweat, and sheer willpower, earned 2022’s Fight of the Year and Knockout of the Year from The Ring magazine. It wasn’t just a win—it was a resurrection. A reminder that in boxing, no moment is safe until the final bell rings.

It was the fourth and final act in one of boxing’s most storied rivalries, and Juan Manuel Marquez made sure it ended with an exclamation point that echoed through the MGM Grand and around the world. At 2:59 of round six, Marquez landed a thunderous right hand that sent Manny Pacquiao crashing to the canvas, face-first and unconscious. The shot was so clean, referee Kenny Bayless didn’t even initiate a count. The crowd gasped, and a saga nearly a decade in the making came to a definitive, dramatic close.

Billed as the Fight of the Decade, this battle more than lived up to its name. Both fighters promised fireworks and delivered a slugfest for the ages. After three previous meetings riddled with controversy and razor-thin decisions, fans finally witnessed a conclusive ending. Marquez, often the counterpuncher in their trilogy, came in with a plan that fused precision and timing—and it paid off spectacularly.

Early rounds saw momentum swing like a pendulum. Pacquiao, quick and aggressive, rocked Marquez in the second and seemed to be dictating the pace. But Marquez struck back in the third, dropping Pacquiao with a looping right that shifted the tone of the bout. Pacquiao rebounded and answered with a knockdown of his own in the fifth, flooring Marquez with a sharp left that drew roars from the pro-Pacquiao crowd.

As the sixth round neared its end, Pacquiao, ahead 47-46 on all three official scorecards, pressed forward—perhaps a bit too confidently. Then came the counter. A perfectly-timed right cross detonated on Pacquiao’s jaw, silencing the arena. The Filipino icon fell like a felled tree, motionless on the mat.

With this emphatic victory, Marquez not only settled old scores but etched his name in history. He walked away with the WBO “Champion of the Decade” belt, a $6 million purse, and redemption that couldn’t be measured in dollars.

The fight grossed over $10 million at the gate and attracted 1.15 million pay-per-view buys, proving once again that few rivalries captivate the boxing world like Pacquiao vs. Marquez. The fight also won the Ring Magazine’s Fight of the Year and Knockout of the Year.

Years of controversy. Four unforgettable fights. One decisive punch. And finally… closure.

Caesars Hotel & Casino, Atlantic City – In a bout that blended courage, punishment and pure theatre, Arturo “Thunder” Gatti retained his IBF Junior Lightweight crown with a stunning fifth-round stoppage over Gabriel Ruelas on 4 October 1997. The clash was a ferocious contest of heart and heavy hands, later earning The Ring Magazine honours for both Fight of the Year and Knockout of the Year.

Both men came to the ring at 130lbs, but within 24 hours they had rehydrated into welterweights. Gatti carried a two-year youth advantage and a modest edge in reach, yet Ruelas’ experience as a former world champion gave him a calm menace in the early going. Referee Benjy Esteves Jr was busy from the opening bell, warning Ruelas twice for low blows as the challenger sought to soften Gatti’s ribs.

The opening rounds were evenly matched. Gatti’s jab snapped sharply through the guard while Ruelas answered with thudding hooks to the body. By the third, the judges were split—John Stewart and Robert Gonzalez even at 38–38, while William James leaned slightly toward Gatti. Both fighters had already landed enough power punches to test the other’s durability.

In the fourth, the fight swung violently back and forth. Gatti staggered Ruelas with a looping right, only to be rocked seconds later by a left uppercut that sent him tottering backwards. The New Jersey champion absorbed more than a dozen unanswered punches before the bell mercifully intervened. Ruelas returned to his corner sensing that victory was within reach; Gatti’s left eye was gashed, his legs uncertain.

Then came the unforgettable fifth. Both fighters advanced relentlessly, each launching uppercuts in close quarters. The crowd, roaring with disbelief, watched as the momentum shifted yet again. Ruelas pressed forward, determined to finish what he’d started. But as he leaned into another exchange, Gatti unleashed a monstrous left hook—an arcing bomb that sent the challenger crashing to the canvas at 2:03 of the round. Though Ruelas bravely rose, Esteves saw enough and halted the contest at 2:22.

The drama of that short, savage battle captured everything that defines Arturo Gatti’s legend: the capacity to absorb punishment, the refusal to surrender, and the ability to find salvation in a single punch. Gabriel Ruelas, gracious in defeat, had fought with courage that deserved equal applause.

When the dust settled, the night belonged to the champion. In one of the most electrifying five rounds in modern boxing, Arturo Gatti defeated Gabriel Ruelas by technical knockout, securing both his title and his place in ring folklore.
