Oleksandr Usyk reaffirmed his mastery of the heavyweight division with a stunning fifth-round knockout of Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium on 19 July 2025. Before a roaring crowd of 90,000, the Ukrainian southpaw produced a technical and clinical performance to reclaim the undisputed heavyweight championship, becoming only the second man since Muhammad Ali to achieve the honour twice.

This was a rematch two years in the making. Usyk had previously stopped Dubois in Poland in 2023, and while the Briton returned to the ring with renewed strength and three consecutive knockout victories – including one over Anthony Joshua – the gap in class remained unmistakeable on this summer night in London.

From the opening bell, Usyk dictated the rhythm with his trademark precision and deft movement. The first round saw the champion-in-waiting glide around the ring, peppering Dubois with a crisp jab and sharp counters. Dubois responded in the second, forcing his way forward with aggression and momentarily edging the exchanges. Yet it was a fleeting moment of success. Usyk’s footwork, head movement, and timing soon began to dismantle the challenger’s ambitions.

By the third round, Usyk’s left hand found its target repeatedly, drawing cheers from the crowd as Dubois struggled to adjust. The Briton threw plenty, but landed little. CompuBox later showed the gulf in accuracy: Usyk connected with 37% of his punches to Dubois’ 19%. In round four, Usyk’s dominance became undeniable. Every Dubois advance was met with a counter that halted his momentum, and the Ukrainian’s ring craft made the younger man look increasingly desperate.

The decisive moment arrived in the fifth. A perfectly timed right hook from Usyk struck Dubois high on the temple, sending him crashing to the canvas. Though he rose bravely, his balance was gone. Seconds later, a crushing left hook landed cleanly on the chin. Dubois sank to his knees as referee Mike Griffin delivered the count, with his corner simultaneously throwing in the towel. The official time of the stoppage was 1 minute 52 seconds.

At the time of the knockout, all three judges had Usyk comfortably ahead – 40–36, 39–37, and 39–37. The victory extended Usyk’s undefeated professional record to 24 wins, cementing his place among the sport’s greats.

The atmosphere inside Wembley was one of awe rather than shock. Oleksandr Usyk had once again proven himself the master technician of modern boxing, and Daniel Dubois, valiant though he was, became another name added to the list of those who tried and fell before the brilliance of Oleksandr Usyk.

In a night that will be etched into British boxing folklore, Daniel Dubois turned the heavyweight division on its head with a sensational fifth-round knockout of Anthony Joshua in front of 96,000 stunned fans at Wembley Stadium.

Dubois, defending his IBF crown, showed no fear as he tore into the two-time world champion from the first bell. While many doubted the 26-year-old’s ability to rise to the moment, it was Joshua who appeared frozen, unable to match the young champion’s energy or fire.

The fight started with an early shock as Dubois, known for his thunderous jab and power shots, floored Joshua with a crushing right hand in the opening round. The former Olympic gold medallist never fully recovered. A steady stream of stiff jabs and punishing hooks from Dubois kept Joshua off balance and on the defensive, preventing the Watford warrior from finding any rhythm.

By the third round, Joshua was once again down on the canvas, as a sharp left from Dubois crumpled him to the ropes. Though the crowd roared in an effort to lift their man, the chants of “AJ” began to fade under the relentless assault.

The fourth saw Joshua attempt to claw his way back, landing a few shots of his own, but it was too little, too late. Dubois, sensing the end was near, kept his composure and waited for the perfect moment to strike.

That moment arrived early in the fifth. After forcing Joshua onto the back foot with pinpoint pressure, Dubois unleashed a devastating counter right hand that detonated on Joshua’s chin. The ex-champion collapsed to the canvas and, despite his best efforts to rise, was counted out by the referee. The knockout won the coveted Ring Magazine Knockout of the Year.

With the win, Dubois not only retained his IBF world title but announced himself as a major force in the heavyweight scene. Ringside observers, including current titleholders Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury, watched closely — and perhaps with new caution — as “Dynamite” Dubois celebrated the most important victory of his career.

As talk turns to rematch clauses and future title unifications, one thing is certain: Daniel Dubois has arrived as a true wrecking ball in boxing’s most glamorous division.

In the scorching desert heat of Riyadh’s Kingdom Arena, Britain’s Daniel Dubois punched his way back into elite heavyweight contention with a thunderous eighth-round stoppage of previously unbeaten Filip Hrgovic. The battle, which carried high stakes as part of the Queensberry vs. Matchroom “5 vs 5” showdown, also awarded Dubois the IBF interim heavyweight title — and possibly more, should current unified champion Oleksandr Usyk vacate.

Referee John Latham halted the contest just 57 seconds into Round 8 following ringside medical advice, as Hrgovic’s face streamed blood from multiple cuts sustained under the relentless onslaught. What began as a clash between youth and experience quickly turned into a war of attrition, one Dubois refused to lose.

The 26-year-old Londoner, now 22-2 (21 KOs), entered the bout as a man with much to prove. Dismissed by many following his 2020 loss to Joe Joyce and a controversial stoppage against Usyk last year, Dubois was seen as a flawed force with puncher’s power but fragile resolve. But from the opening bell, he fought like a man possessed — pressing forward, absorbing punishment, and returning fire with spite.

Croatia’s Hrgovic, 31, started strong. His right hand found Dubois early and often in the first few rounds, but the Brit never retreated. Instead, Dubois answered back with heavy hooks and well-timed counters, gradually breaking through the Croatian’s defense. By the fifth, it was Hrgovic’s face showing the wear — a gaping gash opened by a pinpoint right hand shifted momentum firmly in Dubois’ favor.

By Round 7, Dubois had turned the bout into a clinic in sustained violence. His combinations were landing with increasing regularity, and Hrgovic, though still standing, was visibly deteriorating. The ringside doctor had seen enough less than a minute into the eighth, and the referee called a halt to the contest, giving Dubois the biggest win of his career.

The victory crowned Queensberry’s clean sweep over Matchroom in the high-profile 5 vs 5 tournament, earning promoter Frank Warren bragging rights and a $3 million prize. But for Dubois, the real reward was redemption — and potentially, a future crack at full world honours.

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia — British heavyweight Daniel Dubois breathed new life into his career with a sensational late finish over American Jarrell Miller on December 23, 2023, at the Kingdom Arena. Just seconds from the final bell, Dubois unleashed a furious combination that left Miller reeling and forced the referee to halt the contest at 2:50 of the tenth round.

The bout was part of the high-profile “Day of Reckoning” card, headlined by Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder’s respective returns. While Dubois and Miller were not the main event, their clash delivered one of the evening’s most dramatic moments.

Dubois, 26, entered the ring with critics questioning his resilience after stoppage defeats to Joe Joyce and Oleksandr Usyk. Miller, weighing an enormous 333 pounds—nearly 100 more than his opponent—looked to impose his size and pressure on the Londoner.

The opening round saw Dubois set the tone, firing stiff jabs and ripping to Miller’s midsection. Yet the Brooklyn fighter trudged forward, throwing looping shots that tested Dubois’ guard. By the middle rounds, the contest had turned into a gruelling battle: Miller’s sheer bulk and work rate against Dubois’ sharper technique and mobility.

In round seven, a jolting right hand from Dubois visibly slowed the American. By the eighth and ninth, Miller’s pace dipped dramatically, his gas tank drained by the younger man’s steady body attack. Still, the New Yorker showed grit, ploughing forward and throwing heavy hooks even as his feet betrayed his conditioning.

With the fight seemingly headed to the scorecards, Dubois produced the finish of his career. A snapping right uppercut in the tenth rocked Miller back, followed by a series of unanswered hooks and crosses. Trapped in his own corner, Miller absorbed seven clean shots before the referee mercifully intervened with only ten seconds remaining.

Statistically, Dubois dominated: connecting on 208 of 515 punches (40%), while Miller landed just 107 of 379. The victory marked Dubois’ 20th knockout in 21 wins, proving once again his reputation as one of the division’s most dangerous finishers.

For Dubois, the win was more than just a notch in the record—it was redemption. Against a larger, outspoken rival who had branded him a quitter, the young Briton displayed stamina, toughness, and championship mettle.

As he left the ring in Riyadh, Dubois declared himself ready for the top names in the heavyweight division. After a night like this, it’s hard to doubt him.

WROCŁAW, POLAND — In a battle that blended skill, heart, and heated debate, Oleksandr Usyk maintained his stranglehold on the heavyweight crown with a commanding ninth-round knockout victory over Daniel Dubois at Stadion Wrocław in front of a patriotic, pro-Usyk crowd of over 20,000.

The undefeated Ukrainian southpaw retained his WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, IBO, and The Ring heavyweight titles, reinforcing his reputation as one of the sport’s most cerebral champions. But the bout was not without its drama — a controversial moment in round five had the boxing world buzzing.

The much-anticipated clash was Dubois’ first shot at the full version of the WBA title after claiming the ‘Regular’ version in 2022. At 25, the British powerhouse entered the ring with a slight size and youth advantage, tipping the scales at 233 pounds to Usyk’s 221. But what he had in weight, he lacked in execution.

Usyk was elusive and calculated from the outset, utilizing slick angles, footwork, and superior timing to dominate nearly every exchange. According to CompuBox, he out landed Dubois in every round, finishing with 88 punches landed to Dubois’ 47. Dubois failed to register double-digit connects in any round.

Yet, it was a body shot in the fifth that temporarily halted the action and ignited post-fight controversy. Dubois delivered a borderline punch that dropped Usyk to the canvas. Referee Luis Pabon ruled it a low blow, granting Usyk nearly four minutes of recovery time. Though the shot appeared to many — including Dubois’ team — as legal, the official’s decision stood, leaving the “what if” lingering in post-fight discussions.

Dubois, visibly deflated in the later rounds, was dropped to a knee in the eighth and again in the ninth by precise combinations from the Ukrainian maestro. The second knockdown sealed the bout as the referee completed the count, awarding Usyk a ninth-round KO victory.

The win marked Usyk’s 21st straight professional triumph and his second defence of the unified heavyweight crown. For Dubois, it was a sobering second career defeat — and a bitter one, given the fifth-round controversy.

As Usyk celebrated on the weekend of Ukraine’s Independence Day, the message was clear: the road to heavyweight supremacy still runs through him. And with names like Tyson Fury looming, the division’s story is far from over.

LONDON – December 3, 2022 — In one of the more improbable turnarounds seen under the bright lights of a heavyweight co-main event, Daniel Dubois (at the time 19-1) clawed his way back from a disastrous opening round to stop Kevin Lerena in round three at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

What began as a routine title defence quickly turned into a nightmare for Dubois, who hit the canvas three times in the first round alone. Lerena, a former cruiserweight champion turned heavyweight spoiler, capitalized early, dropping Dubois with a shot to the temple that sent shockwaves through the 60,000 in attendance. Dubois, visibly unsteady, touched down twice more—each time opting to kneel to survive an onslaught, raising immediate concerns in his corner.

Unknown to the crowd at the time, Dubois had suffered a knee injury—later confirmed as a torn ACL—during the initial knockdown. It left him off-balance and vulnerable, teetering on the edge of defeat with each passing second of the round. But where some would have folded, Dubois dug deep.

The second round saw a wounded but regrouped Dubois take a more cautious approach, slowing the pace and managing to keep Lerena at bay long enough to buy precious recovery time. Lerena, perhaps sensing the momentum slipping, failed to press the advantage.

Then, the third round began—and so did Dubois’ comeback. With thunder in his right hand, the Londoner turned the tide with a well-timed counter that floored Lerena, flipping the script entirely. With blood in the water, Dubois poured on the pressure, hammering the South African with a barrage of uppercuts and hooks until the referee waved off the bout as Lerena sagged into the ropes.

The stoppage not only allowed Dubois to retain his WBA ‘regular’ heavyweight title, but also preserved his ambitions for future world title opportunities. Despite the early chaos and the injury setback, the 25-year-old proved he could endure adversity and still find the finish.

Promoter Frank Warren confirmed post-fight that Dubois would undergo scans to assess the knee damage, with plans to return in the new year pending recovery. Regardless of the timeline, one thing is clear—Dubois added heart to his already fearsome punch power.

Daniel Dubois stormed into the American fight scene with a ruthless fourth-round knockout of Trevor Bryan at Casino Miami, seizing the WBA ‘regular’ heavyweight crown and staking his claim among the division’s leading contenders.

The Londoner, still only 24, travelled into Don King territory but wasted little time in asserting dominance. From the opening bell Dubois established control behind a stiff jab and heavy right hands, forcing Bryan backwards and limiting the champion’s output. The American, unbeaten before the contest, spent much of the early action clinching and covering up, while Dubois grew in confidence as he pressed forward.

By the third session the gulf in class became glaring. Dubois whipped home a thudding left hook that visibly rocked Bryan, sparking an onslaught that had the defending champion clinging on until the bell. The reprieve was brief.

In round four, Dubois increased the tempo, sensing the finish. Another crunching left hook sent Bryan reeling into the ropes, his legs betraying him. A second, even cleaner blow moments later was decisive. Bryan collapsed face-down on the canvas, unable to beat the referee’s count, as Dubois wheeled away in triumph.

The victory marks a career-defining moment for the Briton, who rebounded impressively from his 2020 setback against Joe Joyce. With the knockout, Dubois improved to 18 wins with 17 stoppages, underlining his reputation as one of the most dangerous punchers in the division. Bryan, who had held the belt since 2021, offered little to halt the surge and slumped to his first professional defeat.

While the WBA ‘regular’ title is considered a secondary version beneath Oleksandr Usyk’s ‘super’ belt, the triumph places Dubois in mandatory contention for the true championship. It also sets up enticing domestic options, with trainer Shane McGuigan pointing to Dillian Whyte as a potential opponent on home soil.

For now, Dubois leaves Miami not only with a belt but also with momentum. A statement knockout on foreign ground has re-ignited his march towards the sport’s summit – and the heavyweight landscape has a fresh, formidable challenger in its midst.

British heavyweight sensation Daniel Dubois made a thunderous US debut on Sunday night in Cleveland, delivering a stunning first-round knockout against Joe Cusumano. The powerful contender demonstrated his dominance by flattening Cusumano three times within the opening round, marking a spectacular entry onto the American boxing scene.

Dubois wasted no time in asserting his authority, sending Cusumano to the canvas early in the round. The first knockdown came swiftly after Cusumano landed a punch, only to be met with a fierce retaliatory combination of right hands from Dubois. The sheer power behind Dubois’ punches was evident as Cusumano struggled to withstand the onslaught.

Cusumano showed resilience by getting back on his feet, but Dubois was relentless. A relentless barrage of punches, culminating in a devastating chopping right hand, resulted in the second knockdown of the bout. The American fighter, showing admirable determination, once again rose to continue the fight.

However, Dubois was not to be denied. He unleashed another brutal assault, sending Cusumano crashing to the canvas for the third and final time. The referee had no choice but to call an end to the bout, sealing a triumphant US debut for Dubois.

This victory marks Dubois’ second consecutive first-round stoppage since his comeback from a significant injury. Last year, Dubois suffered his first professional defeat and a broken eye socket in a bout against Joe Joyce. Undeterred, Dubois has bounced back with renewed vigor, showcasing his formidable punching power and resilience.

Dubois’ latest triumph brings his professional record to 17 wins, 16 of which have come by knockout, with an impressive five victories inside the first round. The British heavyweight’s performance in Cleveland is a clear statement of his intentions to make a significant impact on the global boxing stage.

With such a dominant display, Daniel Dubois has undoubtedly positioned himself as a heavyweight contender to watch. Boxing fans and experts alike will be eagerly anticipating his next move as he continues his pursuit of championship glory.

In a triumphant return to the ring, Daniel Dubois secured the WBA interim heavyweight title by stopping Bogdan Dinu in the second round at the Telford International Centre. This victory marked Dubois’ first fight since his defeat to Joe Joyce in November, demonstrating his resilience and determination to reclaim his position in the heavyweight division.

Under the guidance of new trainer Shane McGuigan, the 23-year-old British boxer displayed an aggressive start from the opening bell. Dubois dominated the first round, setting the stage for his decisive second-round performance. Just 15 seconds into the second round, Dubois landed a powerful right hand that sent Dinu to the canvas. The Romanian fighter failed to beat the referee’s count, handing Dubois his 16th win in 17 professional bouts.

The emphatic win was a significant step in rebuilding his reputation after the loss to Joyce, which was marred by a severe eye injury. Dubois’ performance also coincided with a proud family moment, as his younger sister Caroline qualified for the Olympic Games earlier that day.

The fight’s outcome was a stark reminder of Dinu’s questionable ranking by the WBA. Despite being ranked No. 4, Dinu had previously suffered knockout losses to Kubrat Pulev and Jarrell Miller, raising doubts about his position. Nonetheless, Dubois didn’t allow these concerns to overshadow his victory. He aggressively pursued Dinu from the outset, using his jab effectively and connecting with a crucial right hand that ended the fight.

Dubois expressed satisfaction with his performance and readiness to continue his journey under McGuigan’s mentorship. This victory not only marked a successful comeback but also positioned Dubois for future opportunities in the heavyweight division. Despite the WBA’s ranking inconsistencies, the win against Dinu was a solid step forward for Dubois, restoring his status as a rising star in boxing.

Joe Joyce made a dramatic entry onto the global boxing stage by defeating Daniel Dubois in the tenth round of their highly anticipated bout for the British, Commonwealth, and European heavyweight titles at Church House, Westminster.

The conclusion was thrilling and unexpected. Dubois, who had been battling a swelling left eye since the fourth round, was hit with a powerful jab to the same eye at the start of the tenth round. He instinctively pawed at his injured eye before taking a knee, remaining there as referee Ian John-Lewis completed the count.

Joyce’s triumph was a testament to his experience and composure. The 35-year-old, who had previously been dismissed by many as the underdog, showcased his resilience and strategic prowess. Despite Dubois’ impressive record and power, such as his two round demolition of Ricardo Snijders in his last fight, Joyce’s experience and tactical approach proved decisive.

Dubois started the fight strong, landing significant punches in the early rounds. However, Joyce’s relentless jab and disciplined defence began to take their toll. By the fourth round, Dubois’ eye was visibly damaged, and Joyce continued to target it with precision. Despite Dubois’ efforts to fight back, Joyce’s control grew more dominant as the rounds progressed.

As the fight wore on, Dubois showed signs of distress, while Joyce maintained his pressure, landing accurate shots and avoiding major hits. In the sixth round, Joyce delivered a clean hook that further destabilized Dubois. By the eighth and ninth rounds, Joyce had firmly established his dominance, and the end came swiftly in the tenth round.

For Dubois, this defeat marks a significant setback. At just 23, he has ample time to rebuild his career, but the fight exposed vulnerabilities that he will need to address moving forward. His performance, while initially strong, faltered under Joyce’s experienced pressure and precise jabs.
