Daniel Dubois vs Tom Little 23.06.2018
Daniel Dubois extended his knockout streak in London, delivering a powerful performance against Tom Little on the Martin Murray-Roberto Garcia undercard at the O2 Arena. The unbeaten British heavyweight, now boasting an 8-0 record with eight knockouts, showcased his formidable skills in a decisive fifth-round stoppage.
The 20-year-old Dubois, standing 6-feet-5 and weighing 236½ pounds, demonstrated his punching prowess by dropping Little with a body shot in the fourth round. The end came swiftly in the fifth, as Dubois unleashed a series of unanswered blows to the body and head, prompting referee Terry O’Connor to halt the bout just 58 seconds into the round. This victory marked the first time Dubois had fought beyond the third round since his professional debut in April 2017.
Little, a 6-feet-6, 250-pound fighter, had predicted he would take Dubois deep into the fight and inflict significant damage. However, it was Dubois who dominated, securing the British Boxing Board of Control heavyweight title with a performance that left Little reeling. This loss was Little’s second consecutive knockout defeat and his third since turning pro in July 2011. Previously, Croatia’s Filip Hrgovic had stopped Little in the fourth round of an eight-round bout in January in Riga, Latvia.
Throughout the match, Dubois consistently landed heavy shots, starting with a left hand to the body that floored Little about 40 seconds into the fourth round. Despite Little’s complaints of a low blow later in the round, the fight continued under O’Connor’s watch. Dubois’ aggression was evident in the third round as well, with a powerful right hand forcing Little to retreat.
In the second round, Dubois connected with a combination to the head and a right to the body, causing Little to clinch. Although Little managed to land a hard left hook, Dubois’ relentless assault resumed quickly. The first round saw Dubois wobbled Little with a left hook, setting the tone for the bout.
Dubois’ victory over Little solidified his status as a rising star in the heavyweight division. With an impressive display of power and poise, Dubois is poised for bigger challenges ahead, continuing his quest for dominance in the boxing world.
