The long-simmering rivalry between Nikita Tszyu and Michael Zerafa reached a deeply unsatisfactory conclusion on 16 January 2026, when their much-hyped clash was halted in the third round and declared a no contest at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre. What had been billed as one of Australian boxing’s most combustible encounters instead dissolved into confusion, anger and a cascade of boos from a sold-out arena.

From the opening bell, the tension was unmistakable. Years of verbal sparring between Zerafa and the Tszyu family ensured a hostile atmosphere, and both fighters began with urgency rather than caution. Zerafa, the more seasoned campaigner, enjoyed early success by stepping in with firm right hands, while Tszyu attempted to impose his physical strength and pressure from centre ring.

The opening round was competitive, with Zerafa’s experience evident as he timed Tszyu on several occasions. Tszyu absorbed the shots and continued to press, refusing to give ground and showing the durability that has underpinned his rise through the ranks. The pace remained intense into the second round, where exchanges became rougher and increasingly scrappy at close quarters.

It was during this phase that the fight took its decisive and controversial turn. An accidental clash of heads opened a cut above Zerafa’s left eye, quickly drawing blood and prompting concern from officials. Despite attempts to continue, the damage worsened, and the ringside doctor was summoned to assess Zerafa’s condition.

Moments later, after consulting with the fighter regarding his vision, the doctor advised referee Chris Condon that the contest should not proceed. The fight was waved off early in the third round, with all three judges having the bout even at 19–19 on their scorecards. Under the rules, the stoppage resulted in a no contest rather than a technical decision, leaving the vacant WBO International middleweight title unresolved.

The decision sparked immediate outrage inside the venue. Jeers echoed around the arena, with debris even thrown towards the ring as frustration boiled over among fans who had anticipated a decisive outcome. Zerafa maintained that the stoppage was not his choice, while Tszyu cut a visibly disappointed figure as he attempted to process an ending that satisfied nobody.

For Tszyu, the anti-climax was particularly bitter given his momentum coming into the contest. The undefeated Sydney southpaw had last been seen in August 2025, when he made short work of Lulzim Ismaili, forcing a first-round retirement after scoring an early knockdown and inflicting a rib injury. That emphatic victory had fuelled expectations that this feud would finally be settled conclusively in Brisbane.

Instead, the bout will be remembered less for what unfolded between the ropes and more for how abruptly it ended. What promised to be a defining chapter in an already heated rivalry instead descended into chaos, leaving supporters stunned and dissatisfied as the crowd filtered out of the Brisbane Entertainment Centre.

In the end, there was no sense of closure for either man, only lingering controversy surrounding a fight that never found its natural conclusion, with Nikita Tszyu and Michael Zerafa departing the ring amid anger, disbelief and unanswered questions.

Gleb Bakshi delivered a statement performance on January 10, 2026, halting Juan Duran inside the opening round to secure the WBA International Middleweight Championship. Fighting on a busy bill in Germany, the Serbian-based contender needed barely a handful of minutes to turn an initially tense encounter into a decisive victory.

The bout was scheduled for ten rounds, but from the opening bell it was clear the contest would not follow a measured pace. Duran burst from his corner with aggression, planting his feet early and throwing heavy shots as he attempted to impose himself physically. For a few moments, Bakshi was forced to adjust, taking stock as his opponent tried to dictate proceedings.

That early pressure, however, proved short-lived. Once Bakshi found his balance and range, the dynamic shifted dramatically. Using calm foot placement and sharp timing, he began to read Duran’s attacks, allowing the challenger’s forward momentum to work against him. A crisp counter left hand landed flush, instantly changing the fight.

The punch caught Duran cleanly as he stepped in, leaving his legs unsteady and his defence compromised. Sensing the moment, Bakshi stayed composed rather than rushing the finish. Another perfectly placed shot followed, prompting the referee to intervene before further punishment could be taken. The stoppage was swift and decisive, drawing appreciation from ringside observers who recognised the danger Duran was in.

It was a clinical ending that underlined Bakshi’s efficiency. While Duran entered the contest with a reputation for power and a willingness to engage, his approach left openings that Bakshi exploited with precision rather than brute force. The timing of the finish highlighted a fighter who understands distance and judgement as much as raw strength.

The victory added another stoppage to Bakshi’s growing professional record and marked his fifth win inside the distance. It also built on momentum from his previous outing, where he had scored a knockout win over Jose Rodriguez, a result that helped position him for this title opportunity. In both contests, Bakshi showed an ability to remain patient under pressure before striking decisively.

For Duran, the defeat was abrupt and disappointing after such an assertive start. His willingness to engage made for an explosive opening, but it also played into Bakshi’s strengths. The early conclusion denied him the chance to settle into a longer contest, yet it was clear the finish came from accuracy rather than chance.

As the arena continued to fill and the night gathered pace, Bakshi’s performance stood out as one of ruthless clarity. There was no wasted movement, no unnecessary risk—just a sharp read of the situation and a finish executed at the right moment.

In the end, the contest will be remembered for its brevity and precision, with Gleb Bakshi stopping Juan Duran in the first round to capture the WBA International Middleweight Championship in emphatic fashion.

Vito Mielnicki Jr delivered the most authoritative performance of his career on 22 November 2025, halting the unbeaten Samuel Nmomah in the ninth round to claim the vacant WBO Global middleweight title at the ANB Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. On a major international stage, the New Jersey boxer combined discipline, patience and controlled aggression to break down a previously undefeated opponent and announce himself as a serious force at 160lb.

From the opening bell, it was clear that Mielnicki Jr intended to dictate proceedings. He established his lead hand early, setting the tempo and forcing Nmomah onto the back foot. The Nigerian-born fighter, now based in Italy, came into the contest with a perfect professional record and a reputation for strength and durability, but he found himself consistently second-best in the fundamentals. Mielnicki Jr’s ability to vary targets and angles steadily took away Nmomah’s confidence.

The early rounds were defined by Mielnicki Jr’s control of distance. He boxed with maturity, rarely wasting punches, and made Nmomah work hard just to stay competitive. Although the challenger showed flashes of resistance, particularly in the middle rounds, he struggled to sustain momentum against a fighter who had clearly benefited from elite-level experience and preparation.

By the fourth and fifth rounds, the American was landing the cleaner, heavier shots. Nmomah’s toughness kept him upright, but the signs of wear began to show. His guard was breached more frequently, and his movement slowed as Mielnicki Jr continued to chip away. The bout became a test of resilience, one that increasingly favoured the man from New Jersey.

Momentum decisively swung in the later stages. Mielnicki Jr stepped up the pressure, mixing body attacks with sharp blows upstairs. Nmomah’s legs stiffened under the sustained assault, and his defence started to unravel. The end came in the ninth round when a series of unanswered punches left the referee with no choice but to intervene, bringing a decisive end to a contest that had tilted heavily in the champion’s favour.

This victory represented an important rebound for Mielnicki Jr, whose previous outing earlier in the year ended in frustration. In February, he had been held to a draw against Connor Coyle, a result that was later amended to a no contest following post-fight developments. That night raised questions; his performance in Riyadh provided emphatic answers.

Claiming the WBO Global middleweight title not only adds silverware to his résumé but also underlines his progression since an early-career setback. For Nmomah, the defeat marked the first loss of his professional journey and a harsh lesson at the highest level.

In a fight that showcased composure and persistence, Vito Mielnicki Jr proved too accomplished for Samuel Nmomah, sealing his championship moment with a ninth-round stoppage that will be remembered as a defining chapter in both fighters’ careers.

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium once again provided the stage for one of British boxing’s most storied rivalries, as Conor Benn delivered the defining performance of his career to decisively outpoint Chris Eubank Jr in their highly anticipated November 2025 rematch. More than 60,000 fans poured into north London to witness a night layered with history, tension, and significance. What they saw was a polished, ruthless display from Benn—one that not only settled old scores but rewrote a chapter that had eluded the Benn family for more than three decades.

The bout carried a long and winding build-up. Initial plans for a September date had shifted several times due to scheduling concerns around stadium availability, with organisers finally confirming the 15 November showdown in August. There had been considerable discussion regarding weight, with Eubank’s team expressing concern about the 160-pound limit, though both men eventually arrived well within the boundary—Benn marginally the heavier at 159.3 lbs to Eubank’s 159.1 lbs.

From the opening bell, Benn imposed a level of control absent from their first encounter. Where April’s meeting had been frantic and chaotic, this was measured and authoritative. Benn’s jab—crisp, frequent, and cleverly varied—immediately disrupted Eubank’s rhythm. The movement that deserted him in the spring had returned with purpose, allowing him to step in behind combinations and retreat before Eubank could respond.

By the third round, Benn’s body work had become a defining theme. Thudding shots downstairs forced Eubank to hesitate, and his famed durability—so often a fallback throughout his career—seemed dulled. The right side of Eubank’s face began to swell, a consequence of Benn’s sharp, straight work and clever changes of angle.

As the rounds progressed, the contest moved firmly in one direction. Eubank never found the snap or conviction he needed; his attempts to rally were little more than single pot-shots, swallowed up by Benn’s footwork and discipline. The contrast to the first fight was stark. Benn was patient, precise, and utterly assured, refusing to be drawn into reckless exchanges and maintaining full command of distance.

The championship rounds only amplified the divide. Benn’s pace didn’t flag, his accuracy didn’t dip, and his self-belief never wavered. Eubank, needing something remarkable, found no spark to turn the tide. Then, in the closing round, Benn produced the dramatic flourish that crowned his masterclass—two clean knockdowns that sent the stadium into uproar. Eubank, ever game, made it to the final bell, but the scorecards—119–107, 118–108, and 116–110—reflected a contest dominated almost entirely by one man.

When the final verdict was read, the roar was not simply for a victory but for vindication. It had taken 35 years for a Benn to finally defeat a Eubank, and the emotional outpouring ringside said everything about what this result meant to the family and its supporters.

In a rivalry spanning generations, the latest chapter belonged entirely to Benn family.

In a night that will be etched into the annals of British boxing history, Chris Eubank Jr outpointed Conor Benn by unanimous decision at the roaring Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Before 67,000 electrified fans, Eubank Jr not only overcame a ferocious challenger but also rewrote the narrative of a fractured family legacy.

The atmosphere was pure theatre even before the first punch was thrown. As anticipation bubbled over, a surprise entrance from Chris Eubank Sr turned the night into an emotional rollercoaster. Estranged for years and vocal in his disapproval of the bout, the senior Eubank’s sudden appearance alongside his son sent shockwaves through the stadium. Their reunion, captured live to a stunned audience, reignited the flame of a legendary name in boxing.

Inside the ring, the action was just as breath-taking. From the opening bell, both fighters met at centre ring, refusing to take a backward step. Benn, bringing the intensity of a man with a point to prove, launched explosive combinations, rocking Eubank with a fierce left hook in the third round. Yet, the elder statesman of the contest showed why experience counts when the stakes are highest.

Despite appearing drained after a tough weight cut and carrying the burden of a hefty fine for missing the mark at the scales, Eubank dug deep. His sharper counters and veteran savvy turned the tide in the later rounds, silencing those who doubted his endurance.

Judges returned a unanimous verdict of 116-112, giving Eubank the definitive win in a rivalry three decades in the making. Benn, suffering the first defeat of his professional career, showed heart and promise but was ultimately outfoxed on the biggest stage of his life.

The night was steeped in drama, with celebrity sightings, deafening chants, and a ‘wall of sound’ South Stand providing a spine-tingling backdrop. The echoes of their fathers’ epic battles were unmistakable, but this was a story written by their sons — raw, brutal, and unforgettable. The fight also won the Ring Magazine Fight of the Year.

With a two-fight deal in place, the talk of a rematch has already begun. After a night that combined high emotion, ferocious combat, and a family saga for the ages, the world will be watching when Eubank Jr and Benn meet again.

The Australian middleweight, ranked number eight with the WBA, produced a composed and calculated performance across the opening exchanges before turning up the heat in decisive fashion, ending the contest at one minute and 34 seconds of round seven. Referee Chris Condon called a halt to proceedings with all three judges comfortably ahead on their scorecards — Les Fear and Leanne Reid both scoring 60-54, with Charlie Lucas marginally closer at 59-55.

Ay, ranked number eight with the WBA and entering the bout on the back of an undefeated record of 19 wins and one draw, arrived in Sydney having never previously fought outside Germany. The awkwardness and unconventional movement he brought with him caused Zerafa some early problems, with the local man taking his time to find rhythm against a southpaw style that offered little in the way of predictable patterns.

The opening rounds were measured and tentative, with Zerafa probing on the jab and working to establish the right hand as his weapon of choice. Ay, to his credit, proved elusive and sharp on the counter, though he offered little in the way of sustained attacking threat. It was Zerafa who grew into the fight with greater authority, landing the cleaner work as the rounds progressed and gradually asserting his physicality.

Rounds two and three began to tilt decisively in Zerafa’s favour, with the Sydney man landing sharp right hands that rocked Ay and forced him backwards. The German showed resilience, absorbing punishment and attempting to respond, but Zerafa’s combinations — particularly his work to the body followed by the overhand right — were visibly taking their toll.

The momentum continued to build through the middle rounds. Zerafa appeared to grow in confidence, his footwork and timing sharpening with each passing minute, whilst Ay increasingly found himself on the back foot and struggling to generate meaningful offence. A knockdown in the seventh round signalled the beginning of the end, with Zerafa releasing a torrent of clean shots that left the German with no answer and the referee with no option but to wave the contest off.

It was a result that continued Zerafa’s fine run of form. In his previous outing last August at the ICC Exhibition Centre in Sydney, he had dispatched Tommy Browne in just one round, with Browne’s corner retiring their man at the conclusion of the opening frame due to a bicep injury. Back-to-back stoppage victories — both on home soil — now give the 32-year-old genuine momentum at world level.

The WBO InterContinental title adds meaningful silverware to Zerafa’s collection, and his performance on the night demonstrated the class and power that have long made him a respected name in the middleweight division.

In the final reckoning, Michael Zerafa proved too strong, too sharp and too experienced for Besir Ay, and Sydney witnessed a champion-level display from a fighter who continues to remind the middleweight world that he means serious business.

Josh Kelly steadied his career with a measured majority decision victory over late substitute Ishmael Davis at Wembley Stadium, navigating a tricky assignment that arrived only days before the opening bell. Originally set to meet Liam Smith on 21 September 2024, Kelly had to recalibrate when Smith pulled out through illness, with Davis stepping in at short notice. The change removed name value but not danger, and the contest demanded patience, discipline and ring intelligence.

From the outset, Kelly looked to control distance and tempo, using nimble footwork and sharp counters to bank rounds without overcommitting. Davis, unbeaten and carrying the confidence of a man with little to lose, pressed forward in bursts and tried to disrupt rhythm with stance switches and body attacks. The dynamic made for a chess match rather than a shoot-out, with Kelly’s hand speed and timing often proving decisive, even as Davis remained competitive.

Rounds one through four belonged largely to Kelly, who circled smartly and picked moments to score cleanly, particularly with straight shots and short combinations. Davis had his success, especially when he invested downstairs, but he struggled to trap Kelly consistently. The Sunderland boxer’s movement and ring craft allowed him to nick close sessions while limiting sustained exchanges.

The middle rounds saw the contest tighten. Davis grew in confidence, landing more frequently to the body and occasionally finding Kelly with solid single shots. For Kelly, this was about management rather than dominance. Having learned hard lessons earlier in his career, he resisted the temptation to showboat and instead focused on maintaining balance and composure. That maturity has been evident since his move up in weight and was a key factor here.

Late drama arrived in the final round when Davis finally broke through with heavy pressure, briefly rocking Kelly and forcing him to dig deep. It was the challenger’s strongest spell of the fight and ensured the scorecards would be interesting. Kelly responded as a seasoned professional should, holding, moving and surviving until the final bell without conceding a knockdown.

When the scores were read, one judge had it level at 114–114, while the other two returned narrow verdicts of 115–113 and 115–114 in Kelly’s favour, sealing a majority decision. The result reflected a contest that was competitive but controlled, with Kelly doing enough across the twelve rounds to justify the nod.

Importantly, this win builds on Kelly’s previous outings, where he boxed his way to unanimous decisions over Gabriel Alberto Corzo and Troy Williamson, and a knockout win over Placido Ramirez. Against Davis he showed improved fight management and stamina against a motivated late replacement.

In the end, the bout served as a reminder that adaptability is a vital asset at elite level, and on this occasion it was Josh Kelly who adjusted best on the night, overcoming the physical resilience and ambition of Ishmael Davis to secure the verdict.

Hamzah Sheeraz produced one of the most emphatic performances of his career as he dismantled Liam Williams inside the opening round at the Copper Box Arena in London, retaining his WBC Silver and Commonwealth middleweight titles in breathtaking fashion.

The Ilford prospect, unbeaten in 19 professional outings, needed just two minutes and 36 seconds of the first round to bring a brutal end to proceedings, leaving no doubt whatsoever about the gap in class between the two men on the night.

Williams, the former two-weight British champion from Crickhowell in Wales, entered the contest with genuine pedigree. His record of 25 wins, four defeats and a draw, with 20 stoppages to his name, represented the sternest examination Sheeraz had faced on home soil. The veteran had gone 12 hard rounds at championship level on numerous occasions and possessed the kind of rugged durability that had troubled far bigger names throughout his career.

Yet from the first bell, it was abundantly clear that Williams had no answer to the champion’s razor-sharp left jab. Thrown with both precision and genuine venom, the shot repeatedly pierced the challenger’s guard, snapping his head back and disrupting any rhythm he attempted to establish. Williams, to his credit, had been instructed by trainer Gary Lockett to box intelligently and avoid unnecessary exchanges, but the instruction proved near impossible to carry out against an opponent operating at such a devastating level.

A crisp straight shot sent Williams to the canvas early, and although the Welshman beat the count and appeared composed enough to continue, the writing was firmly on the wall. Sheeraz, showing the composure of a seasoned professional, refused to abandon his game plan in search of a quick finish. Instead, he continued to work behind the jab before introducing a sharp right uppercut that exposed the limitations of Williams’s static footwork and lack of head movement.

The end came with 23 seconds remaining in the first round. Lockett had seen enough and wisely intervened to protect his fighter from further punishment. It was a brave but entirely correct decision.

For Sheeraz, the victory represented yet another commanding statement performance. His previous outing — a second-round stoppage of Dmytro Mytrofanov in August 2023 in Wrocław, Poland — had already underlined his punching power, but this showing carried a different quality entirely. The combinations flowed with genuine fluency, the jab was arguably the finest weapon on display at this level in British boxing, and the ring intelligence on show belied his relative inexperience.

Promoter Frank Warren, ringside throughout, wore the expression of a man watching a potential star fulfil considerable promise.

British boxing writers voted Sheeraz their young boxer of the year in 2021, and on this evidence, that judgement looks increasingly prescient. Nearly four in ten recipients of that award over the past six decades have gone on to win world titles.

On a night when Hamzah Sheeraz turned in a near-flawless championship performance and Liam Williams was simply outgunned at every turn, the middleweight division has been put firmly on notice. A talent of this magnitude will not remain beneath the world title picture for very much longer.

On September 15, 2018, boxing fans packed the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada, to witness the long-anticipated rematch between Saul “Canelo” Álvarez and Gennady “GGG” Golovkin. Dubbed Final Judgment, this middleweight championship clash delivered 12 rounds of nonstop, high-stakes drama, culminating in a razor-thin majority decision win for the Mexican superstar.

This sequel came with baggage. Originally set for May, the bout was postponed after Álvarez failed a pre-fight drug test and served a six-month suspension. With tensions high and legacies on the line, both men returned to the ring ready to rewrite the controversial draw from their 2017 encounter.

Unlike their first meeting, Canelo came forward from the outset. Known for his counter-punching, Alvarez flipped the script—meeting Golovkin head-on with sharp body shots and calculated aggression. Golovkin, ever the pressure fighter, looked to control distance with his jab but struggled early to impose the same dominance he had in their first contest.

The early rounds belonged to Canelo. He dictated the pace and found a home for his power punches, particularly to the body, landing 46 body shots compared to just six from Golovkin. By the midpoint, all three judges had Canelo ahead 87–84, signalling a shift in momentum.

But Golovkin wasn’t done. In the championship rounds, the Kazakh warrior surged back. Round 10 featured his hardest punch of the night, visibly hurting Alvarez. Round 11 saw Canelo retreating for the first time, clearly winded as Golovkin poured on pressure. The final round was a war—both men trading leather in the centre of the ring with the outcome still hanging in the balance.

When the dust settled, judges scored the bout 115–113 twice for Alvarez, and 114–114 even. The decision was met with debate, as 10 of 18 media outlets had scored the fight for Golovkin. Nevertheless, Alvarez walked away with the win and the unified middleweight crown, ending GGG’s long-standing reign.

Statistically, Golovkin out landed Álvarez 234 to 202 in total punches, but Canelo landed at a higher percentage and led in power shots across nine rounds.

Controversy aside, both men gave everything in a bout worthy of Ring Magazine Fight of the Year honours. And for fans, one thing was clear—the stage was already being set for a trilogy.

Las Vegas witnessed a dramatic collision of styles and weight ambitions as Saul “Canelo” Álvarez defended his WBC, Ring Magazine and lineal middleweight titles against Amir “King” Khan on 7 May 2016. Staged as the inaugural major sporting event at the brand-new T-Mobile Arena, the night carried the charge of national pride, contrasting styles, and the curiosity of seeing the Briton leap two weight divisions to meet one of boxing’s most formidable champions at a 155-pound catchweight.

Both men arrived following an international press tour that stretched from London to New York to Los Angeles, and the global anticipation was unmistakable. Khan, entering as the former two-division champion, brought his trademark speed and mobility into a daunting assignment. Álvarez, the more seasoned campaigner at the weight, stepped in for his first defence since taking the middleweight crown.

Khan opened the contest with a brisk tempo, springing around the ring and throwing rapid jabs designed to disrupt Álvarez’s rhythm. The Mexican champion probed cautiously at first, targeting the body with measured intent while trying to time the swifter man. Khan found early success with sharp rights and combinations that flickered off Álvarez’s guard and occasionally pierced through it. For several rounds his footwork forced Álvarez to reach, lunge or swing wide, with the champion unable to land the trademark hooks that usually dictate his pace.

By the third, Khan’s speed appeared to unsettle Álvarez, who pressed forward but struggled to trap his opponent for sustained exchanges. The Briton’s confidence grew as he threaded together jabs, counters and well-angled attacks. Álvarez’s right eye began to swell during these passages, a testament to Khan’s crisp accuracy.

Yet the defending champion never drifted from his strategy. He persisted with punishing digs to the ribs, each one thrown with the patience of a fighter who knew time and weight were on his side. Gradually, those blows began to reduce Khan’s movement. Subtle signs emerged in the fifth: Khan’s darting steps became slightly more laboured, and Álvarez started to close the distance with a calmer certainty.

In the sixth, the momentum swung decisively. Khan, still working to keep Álvarez off balance with jabs, was drawn into reacting to a feint downstairs. As he shifted his weight, Álvarez unleashed a thunderous overhand right. It landed flush, flooring Khan instantly and bringing referee Kenny Bayless and ringside medical staff into immediate action. The bout was waved off at 2:37 of the round, sealing a knockout victory of chilling clarity.

It was a reminder of the brutal margins at elite level. For long spells Khan’s ambition and speed created a compelling narrative, but Álvarez’s timing, power and composure ultimately proved decisive. In the end, the middleweight champion retained his crown with a finish that will be revisited for years whenever great one-punch knockouts are discussed. And so the night concluded with Saul Canelo Álvarez and Amir Khan linked in a bout that showcased daring, drama and the unforgiving nature of world-level boxing.
