Imperial Valley’s young heavyweight prospect Andy Ruiz Jr extended his unbeaten record to 8–0 on 5 February 2011 with a third-round stoppage of Kelsey Arnold, proving once again why his name was already circulating among boxing insiders as one to watch.

The 21-year-old, born in Mexicali and raised in Imperial, California, entered the ring carrying both the weight of expectation and the force of his fast-rising reputation. Known for his blistering hand speed despite his sizeable frame, Ruiz wasted little time in stamping his authority on the contest.
